Poor Little Caroline :(

All 3 of the babies have had RSV since around Thursday. This weekend was almost as bad as Christmas without the throwing up. Yesterday Caroline could not catch her breath between coughing and had SO MUCH mucous in her lungs, I felt it would be the safest to go back to the pediatrician. He gave her a saline breathing treatment which did not help. Her O2 saturation was around 93 so he sent me to Vandy for some chest X rays. It came back classic RSV with a spot of possible pneumonia. Poor thing!

Because they were born at almost 34 weeks and did not have any respiratory issues, the NICU doctors did not recommend getting the RSV vaccine, Synagis. It costs $1,000 per monthly dose for each child. You have to give it throughout the whole RSV season so you can imagine how much that adds up to! It is not something you get just for safety's sake like a flu vaccine. Most people have to fight with their insurance companies to cover it.

My pediatrician called today and said he doubts that it is pneumonia. The spot is probably from a little pocket collapsing from mucous. He said to keep her on the antibiotics for seven days to avoid any kind of resistance.  She is doing much better today thankfully. She's gotten a whole week off of school to hang out with mom.
