Fluid sucked out of 2 ears and adenoids out. Yay! He did so much better than we thought he would. I think he was super pumped about some alone time with mom and dad at 6am. Pops surprised us and showed up at the hospital! We were very surprised and touched that he did that. Townes got some super extra attention after that.
Here he is after his happy medicine (Versed):
He was waving his hands around like he was at a Grateful Dead concert! Everything went very smoothly. We loved Dr. Duncan. He treated Townes like one of his own. And it wouldn't be an outing without giving someone (the anesthesiologist) a full explanation of my reproductive history.
The surgery took about 30 minutes. He said that Townes had lots of fluid in the right ear and just a bit in the left. That explains why he seems to hear normally when we speak softly to him. He also removed all the lovely ear wax. This kid is a wax machine so I was happy with that. His adenoids were enlarged, but the tonsils were fine. After the surgery he was REALLY fussy. Once the Advil kicked in and he realized where he was, he calmed down. It involved 30 minutes of Nate wrestling with him and me showing him several "Baby Einstein" episodes on the Ipad. Everything has to be HIS idea so we shuffled through a bottle of milk, a bottle of juice, and his wubanub. He would grab one of the three and all needed to be within his grasp or he would go ballistic. :) We left around 10:00 am and were home just in time for him to take a long nap.
He was semi-normal yesterday but very tired and cranky. This morning he seems to be back to normal. Thank goodness!!!
We are a little miffed that we had to go through this horrific sleep study and extra stuff at Vanderbilt. He didn't even need his tonsils out. So rant time... love having this amazing hospital (and no. 11 NICU in the country) down the street, but their billing and administrative practices are insane. I suspect that they charge the heck out of insured patients to cover their indigent care programs they boast so self-righteously about. I think we owe around $500 for the completely unnecessary stuff we had done. It definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Especially after what I saw during my triplet pregnancy. My favorite memory was in the OB waiting area where some lady dropped f-bombs every other word at 90 decibels into her Iphone (of course) for getting cut off food stamps. Her (4) kids were running and screaming all over the place knocking over tables and toys. So glad the extra services they charged me for went to pay for her services. I'm sure she appreciates her free medical care while we shell out hundreds+ a month for medical insurance, state and federal Medicare/Tenncare taxes, and medical bills. Such is life I guess.
In the meantime, poor Natalie had some stomach yuckies and an ear infection. However, this means she gets her bubblegum Amoxicillin!
